Dutch Vice-Minister visits UNDP Indonesia’s newly launched ‘Innovative Financing Lab’
Jakarta, October 16th, 2018 – Vice-Minister for International Cooperation of the Netherlands, Ms. Reina Buijs on Tuesday visited the newly launched UNDP Indonesia’s Innovative Financing Lab, as part of seven-day visit in Indonesia.
Her visit came less than a month after the Innovative Finance Lab was inaugurated in presence of the Indonesian Minister of National Planning Development, Mr. Bambang Brodjonegoro, investors, entrepreneurs, representatives of national institution, religious organizations and of the international community in Jakarta. The Lab operates as a collaborative space for all partners to design and test innovative solutions that can leverage financing flows to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“The innovative financing lab tackles two of the most pressing issues pertaining to SDGs achievement; measurement and innovative financing. Establishing new ways to monitor and measure SDGs achievement is a cornerstone to the success of the 2030 development agenda.” said Ms Buijs.
UNDP Indonesia’s Innovative Financing Lab operates through several windows; Philanthropy, Technology, Impact Investing, Islamic Finance, Green Financing, Social Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Management.
UNDP Indonesia Country Director, Christophe Bahuet said, “We are very honoured that the Vice Minister came to visit our innovative financing lab and of the interest that the Government of the Netherlands expressed in UNDP's work for the SDGs in Indonesia. With the Lab, UNDP looks forward to working with all interested partners to harness the huge potential of innovative finance for the SDGs in Indonesia and worldwide.”
During her stay in Jakarta, Ms Buijs met with the vice Minister of Foreign Affairs A.M. Fachir and Civil Society Organizations to talk about social development and met with important development cooperation partners e.g. UNDP, KOICA, The World Bank and Asian Development Bank.
One recent illustration of the potential of innovative financing for SDGs in Indonesia is the partnership with the National Alms Agency, BAZNAS, Bank Jambi and UNDP, which blended Zakat contributions and corporate social responsibility funding to provide electricity from micro-hydro power to 5,000 people in poor communities of Sumatra’s Jambi province.
Also present during the visit were Deputy Head of Mission at Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands in Indonesia, Mr. Ferdinand Lahnstein; Vice President of BAZNAS, Mr. Zainulbahar Noor; CEO of Sintesa Group, Ms. Shinta Kamdani and Managing Director of ANGIN (Angel Investment Network Indonesia), Mr. David Soukhasing.
