UNDP enters into a new partnership with Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on Sustainable Development

JAKARTA (January 18, 2016) – UNDP Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to better support the development of clean and renewable energy for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNDP Indonesia Country Director Christophe Bahuet signed the agreement with Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said on January 15th. The agreement is an umbrella for closer collaboration between UNDP and the Ministry for policy analysis in the energy sector, South South cooperation and support  to establish a Sustainable Energy Fund that will enhance access to clean energy in Indonesia

Under this stronger cooperation, UNDP will support the Ministry in hosting the upcoming Bali Clean Energy Forum on 11-12 February, to be opened by Indonesian President Joko Widodo. 

UNDP around the world is assisting countries to achieve by 2030 the 17 global goals or SDG. Those goals were adopted by the Member States of the United Nations last September and they include developing sources of sustainable energy

In Indonesia t Government  aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix to 23 percent by 2025 against 6 per cent currently. Under the new agreement, UNDP will assist the Ministry in meeting this ambitious target.
