    FORMER PRESIDENT HABIBIE IS IN UNDP’S PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT TO WOMEN POLITICIANS

    Indonesian former President B.J. Habibie has taken part in UNDP’s sponsored public service announcement (PSA) on women politicians. The 30-second PSA features Habibie calling voters to choose for qualified female candidates in the April 9 election. UNDP’s Strengthening Women’s participation in Governance (SWARGA) supported the production of the psa.

    Sustainable Palm Oil Initiative (SPO)

    In 2012, the total plantation area for palm oil production in Indonesia was estimated to account for approximately 7.65 million hectares generating 22 million tons of palm oil. Indonesia aims to double its current palm oil production to 40 million tons by 2020. Estimates vary how much land this will require vary widely, ranging from 5-20 million additional hectares. This expansion threatens remaining tropical forest and peat land.

    NEW PARTNERSHIP ON NEGLECTED DISEASES IN INDONESIA

    On 27 February 2014, Indonesia launched a new initiative to increase access and delivery of health technologies for tuberculosis (TB), malaria and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The initiative, known as the “Access and Delivery Partnership”, was launched by Prof. Agus Purwadianto, Senior Adviser to the Minister of Health Indonesia, in the presence of over 20 policy makers from government agencies in Indonesia.

    Palm oil and its derivatives are part of thousands of products across the globe today. One can find it in biodiesel, cosmetics, food, as well as candles, to mention only a few. Since 1990, palm oil consumption has quintupled worldwide. The demand in Asia, where palm oil is used as cooking oil, accounts for a $44 billion industry. Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of crude palm oil, with a forecasted annual growth in production of 10 per cent. Early 2013, exports from Indonesia hit a five-year high.

This process provides an analysis of the country's current state of forest and land governance and the implications for the Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+).

    Bureaucracy reform road map launched in Bangka-Belitung province

    May 22nd 2013 - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Indonesia on Wednesday launched a road map of bureaucracy reform (2013-2017) for the province of Bangka Belitung. The province of Bangka Belitung became the second in the country, after Gorontalo, to formulate such road map.
